A little late, but still worth a comment: I attended the first meeting of the Drupal for NGOs group organised by Rob Purdie and graciously hosted by Amnesty International. This was the first Drupal user group and indeed first techie user group of any sort that I have attended. I am not sure why I have waited so long, as it was a brilliant experience. There where fifty or so attendees, including several who' phoned in' from as far as New York.
While it was interesting hearing about the Greenpeace UK site rebuild, and I was scribbling frantically whenever a module was mentioned that I was not familiar with, it was the 'afters' in the pub that provided the best contacts. Finding out how people where using or thinking of using Drupal was fascinating and it confirmed my thought that there is little that it can not do.
Drupal has been my technical focus for a year, now, since I built my first site for Alan Johnson's Deputy Leadership bid for the Labour Party. I am moving as much of my work infrastructure as possible to Drupal in the next six months. I have managed so far to build many of the sites without coding a single line of PHP. Now that is a powerful system.
